What is Instructional Design???

Instructional design is a process of understanding the users needs, designing and developing instructional strategies to meet with the desired learning outcomes.

What is Information Design???

Information design is the process of exp
laining and interpreting a lot of information an
d data into a simple, organized product that meets the users needs.
The first example is www.theovenreinvented.com, and is an excellent example of information design.
The second example is an effective instructional flyer on how to make a paper plane, it can be found at www.ask.metafilter.com/84923/paper_airplane_designs.
The third example is an instructional website that allows the users to easily find what they want and be able to find the instructions they need through articles or videos.www.howstuffworks.com

Planning Tools for Interaction - Cooking Toast.

Planning Tools for Interaction.
To better my understanding of the process of interaction design, our class has been given the task of preparing a step-by-step text description for cooking toast as well as a flowchart. It is assumed there is a toaster and bread.

Step-by-step text description for cooking toast.
1. Place the toaster on a hard flat surface.
2. Plug the toaster in at the power point and switch on.
3. Choose 1 - 2 pieces of toast.
4. Check that the toast is suitable for eating.
5. Insert the toast into the toaster.
6. Check the temperature setting on the side of the toaster and adjust to your liking.
7. Pull down the lever situated on the side of the toaster.
8. Check to see if the toaster is working.
9. Wait for the toast to cook, it will pop up when ready.
10. Carefully remove the toast from the toaster, it will be hot.

Interactive Design.

What is Interactive Design???

Interactive design can be simply defined as a design that allows the user to interact with the product and be involved in an experience.

Andy Polaine describes interactive design:
"I think its simple: we design interactions. Those might be interactions between people, machines and screens or they might be interactions between two or more people. It is a combination of how the elements function - what they do, what they look like and what they look like they do - and the experience of using them. In many cases it is about making complicated things easier and more pleasurable to use."

Polaine, Andrew."Andy Polaine." Desktop 251, (2009): 30-31.

The first example is a website that enables you to draw in a new way, it is interesting to see your drawing spin into new forms. www.zefrank.com/memory/stringspin/

The second example is an interactive music video called Neon Bible. The outcome of the video depends on how you move the mouse and what you click, extremely weird but really fun to play with. www.beonlineb.com

The third example is called Mr Picasso Head, and it allows you to create your own Picasso masterpiece. www.mrpicassohead.com.

Web 2.0

What is Web 2.0???.... Web 2.0 can be described as the new generation of the World Wide Web, where users have the ability to participate and share information online. The transition to Web 2.0 included the end of the static web page and the introduction of a more dynamic experience that gives users the freedom of open communication and focusses on web based communities with more open sharing of information. I have attached a word map to describe in more detail what Web 2.0 is all about. The following 3 screen grabs are an example of Web.20 and are very popular with users. They are www.wikipedia.org, www.facebook.com and www.youtube.com.
